Rashamel Jones

Rashamel Jones was a Forward for the UConn Huskies from 1995 – 1999. He is a graduate of the university and he was co-captain of UConn’s first-ever National Collegiate Athletic Association Championship Team in 1999, enjoyed winning the Big East Championship three years, and made All Tournament Team during the Big East Tournament as a junior.
Coach Jones runs all training programs and clinics at Hooperstown. Coach Rash said that all basketball players have a bit of an attitude about how good they think they are. He was no different. He knew if hew was going to UConn he was pretty good, until the first day of practice when he found out he had a lot of work to do and a lot to learn.
One of Rash's jobs as a freshman was to guard Ray Allen (one of the all-time best NBA players) every day in practice. "That's how I became a good defender, guarding Ray every day." Rash learned quickly Coach Calhoun's philosophy, "Coach stresses whoever wants it (to win or playing time) the most, 95% of the time is going to be the victorious one at the end of the game. Coach didn't care if we were playing the Chicago Bulls, if we put out all of our effort, we had a great chance to win." Coach Jones strives to teach effort and competitiveness!!

Michael Mathews

Mike Mathews is a basketball coach here at Hooperstown. Mike played for Florida State University from 2001-2004. Mike played professionally in Europe for some time. He also traveled the U.S. and Europe for the Harlem Globetrotters. In addition to coaching here at Hooperstown, Mike is also currently a member of the Harlem Wizards Basketball Organization.

Ryan Lobban

Ryan Lobban is one of our basketball coaches. Ryan is a local talent who played basketball for four years at Mount St. Michael Academy. He also was a member of the Dowling College basketball team. Ryan has been on staff for two years. Prior to working with us, Ryan was a staff member at the Mount St. Michael Basketball Camp.

Andre Sweet
Basketball Trainer

Andre is one of our basketball coaches. He is a two time High School All American who led his team, Rice HS (New York, NY) to two NY State Championships. He originally signed with Duke University where he won a National Championship as a freshman. He transferred to Seton Hall University as a sophomore and was a three year starter for the Big East team.
Andre has also played in the Puerto Rican Superior League for four years and has a career average of 12 points and 8 rebounds per game. He also played for the Harlem Bulldogs in the ABA where he averaged 28 points and 10 rebounds per game. He competed in Santigo, Dominican Republic and for the Reading Railers (PBL) where he averaged 14 points and 9 rebounds per game.
His high school coach, Maurice Hicks describes him as "a winner". His college coach Louis Orr said, "he is the ultimate team player" and Sal Montesano of the Reading Railers said, "he is the most fundamental player he ever coacherd, he really knows how to play the game".
